During the next 2 weeks, bridge structural steel erection will be taking place on a daily basis at the US Route 4 bridge project over the Mascoma River located at the intersection of NH 4A in Lebanon, NH. For safety reasons the traffic on Route 4 will be stopped for approximately 10 to 15 minutes sometime between 5:30 AM - 6:00 AM daily while the beams are being lifted near traffic. A similar delay will occur daily sometime during the late morning, after commuter hours.
Also beginning on Monday, May 18th, for about 2 weeks the section of the NH Rail Trail under the bridge will be closed due to various overhead construction hazards. A rail trail detour will be in place with signs directing trail users around the work via Mill Road, across Route 4, then along NH 4A to Payne Road, then following Route 4 for a few hundred feet to Ice House Road and returning back to the Rail Trail. The trail will be not be closed during non work hours and weekends.
The project replaces the existing structurally deficient bridge and involves road realignment on US Rte 4 and NH 4A with safety and environmental improvements. The NHDOT contract was awarded to the low bidder, RS Audley Construction from Bow NH for a total 8.9 million dollars. The project is 80% federally funded with 20% state matching funds.
